What's New!

Wednesday Night Fight is dealing with some important topics in the body of Christ. We all need to be more humble. Please come out on Wednesday as Pastor Taylor teaches the word of God.

The Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1929, under the leadership of Rev. James Yancey Smith. It became a member of the Smith River Missionary Association in 1930.  Much work was done under the leadership of Rev. Smith. Having no church to worship in, services were held in homes during the winter and under brush harbors during the summer. God touched the heart of Mr. Charlie Scales and he gave a piece of land for a church to be built. The church was built and served its purpose until the congregation out grew the building.

Rev. Smith departed in 1935 and Rev. G.W. Martin became pastor. The church was renovated in 1937 under the leadership of Rev. Martin, who was called from labor to reward. Following Rev. Martin came three other leaders: Rev. Leroy Davis, Rev. Otis Chestnut, and Rev. G.W. Badgett, whose total span lasted for seven years.

In June 1949, God sent Rev. Richard Williams. A lot was accomplished under his leadership. A new plot of land was purchased and this edifice was uplifted.

In 1962, by the aid of the Holy Spirit Rev. I.L. Anthony was elected pastor. Much was accomplished under this leadership, including paying off the indebtedness of the church. In September of 1965, Rev. Anthony resigned to become pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Walkertown, N.C.

In June of 1966, Rev. Fred H. Vann accepted the call to become pastor. Many souls were saved and much work was accomplished. We became actively affiliated with associations locally, statewide, and nationally. In December of 1979, we accepted the resignation of Rev. Vann. The church was without a pastor for approximately nine months.

In April of 1980, God sent us Rev. Theodore Foster and he was installed as pastor. God blessed us under Rev. Foster's leadership. Many souls were saved and many needed improvements were made including the purchase of land and major expansions to the building and parking lot. The Peace and Harmony Choir was also formed under his leadership.

Rev. Foster's pastor-ship ended here in February of 2004. The church was yet again without a pastor for approximately eight months, but we stood on the promises of God and he never left us alone. God is an awesome God and he promised to supply all our needs according to his riches in glory. And at his appointed time he sent us a leader in the form of Pastor. Johnnie F. Taylor.

Pastor Taylor was elected on the third Sunday in October of 2004, and installed on the first Sunday in November of 2004. Under his leadership many souls have been saved, and bible study class has increased tremendously. A praise team, intercessory prayer group and Scouting has been organized. New land and much needed equipment have also been purchased. Also the church has become a member of the Cedar Grove association. The ministerial staff has also increased to six associates to assist with ministries inside and outside the church.  We thank God for Pastor Taylor and we vow to follow him as he follows Christ. Under his leadership God will lead us onto higher heights in Jesus.

During these eighty four years, God has smiled on Rising Star. By the aid of the Holy Spirit five ministers have been called out of Rising Star. Four of them have fought a good fight, finished their course and have gone on to be with the Lord. They are: Rev. Jacob Dillard, Rev. Ezel Hampton, Rev. Roosevelt Golden, and Rev, John Chalmers. We are blessed to have Ministers Rhonda Adams, Krystal Dillard, Jamie Galloway, Frederick Hairston, and Fred Roberts who continues to work faithfully in the church with us today.

Rising Star has stood the test of time. We've had our ups and downs, but God has always been by our side. We will always remember those who bore their burden in the heat of the day. Some have gone on to that great beyond to be with the Lord in that beautiful city, the New Jerusalem.

"On this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Standing on the promises of God we can not fail!
